SPLIT

EDITORIAL

SPLIT© is an independent magazine that delves into the realities of economic inequality through a bold and visually compelling approach. Each issue dissects the contrasts between wealth and austerity, highlighting the cultural, social, and material differences that define our world.
By using striking photography, thought-provoking articles, and unconventional design, SPLIT challenges perceptions and sparks conversations about privilege, access, and the invisible lines that separate social classes.
The first issue of SPLIT focuses on cars, a symbol of both status and necessity. Through a mix of investigative journalism and artistic storytelling, this edition explores the stark contrast between luxury vehicles and humble, budget-friendly everyday cars.

The Social Gap Behind the Wheel.
The first edition of SPLIT approaches the car as a cultural divider, unfolding the topic through four distinct perspectives. It begins by exploring the humble, everyday vehicle and the social realities it represents. We then move into Karma by Oscar Monzón, a photographic article on desire and the intimate aesthetics found inside cars. The issue continues with an examination of today’s car market, revealing how value is constructed, marketed, and perceived. Finally, an interview with Dacia offers an industry viewpoint, grounding the conversation in the challenges of designing for affordability today. Together, these chapters map the complex role of the automobile in shaping class identity.
